Memorial Day

No school Monday the 5th of September! The football team has a game at Madison County High School at 7, so everyone should come show their school spirit and support them!

Back To School Dance

Don't foregt to get your tickets for the back to school dance for Friday the 9th! There will be swing dancing lessons from 6-7, and then swing dancing from 7-8. If swing dancing is not your thing, the doors dont close until 8:30. The dance has a carnavil theme with food and games that will transport you to a real carnavil! Tickets are 5 dollars, but on Thursday they go up to 7 so make sure to find a student council rep to buy your ticket!

Writing Labs

Make sure you take advantage of the new writing labs this year. They are a fabulous way to get help on and perfect your writing! There is a big sign up board on the english hallway by Mrs. Kay's room.

Swing Dance Club

Swing dance club is a new club at school this year. They meet Wednesdays at 4 in the multipurpose room. According to its members, its really a fun new club at the school. If you have any questions you can see the sponsor Mrs. Tetzlaf!

Suggestion Box

When the store is up and running for the year there will be a suggestion box in their. You can write and leave comments or suggestions for your student council reps. Also, this year at lunch once a month we will all eat lunch on the stage and take comments and suggestions.

Back to School

Orientation begins this Monday followed by the first day of classes on Tuesday (B Day). Mass will be on Wednesday this week so make sure the wear your Mass uniform! Also There are UAH library tours on Thursday and Friday. This friday is an A day!

Kicking off another school year at JP2CHS means that you will have a lot to keep up with and remember. Check out the JP2 student council blog weekly for calander updates and important school memos. There will also be periodic contests and news stories about what is happening at school! The JP2 studnet council blog will keep you updated on all you need for this school year and events or news stories you care about. If you have any comments or suggestions you can either place them in our suggestion box in the school store or talk to a class representative!

After today there are only 6 days of school left, and 3 days for the seniors. Ap exams are winding up and many classes are getting close to being finished! All students will have to turn in their text books on the last day of school, May 27th, so it would be smart to start making sure you have them and they are in order.

This Saturday, May 21st, there are two important events going on.

The ALS run is this Saturday morning at 7am. For more information about the run you can talk to coach Mo. Also, if you would like to volunteer, talk to either Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Pepper. the run is for research in honor of coach Mo's husband so it would be great for the whole school to go out and show support.

The other big event on Saturday is the powder puff game between the Junior and Senior class. The game starts at 3 and will be played on the future baseball field at this campus. All the procedes will go to help the people who lost their homes in the recent tornados. You wont want to miss a fun afternoon full of football and cheerleading!

Powder Puff T-shirts

Turn in your powder puff t-shirt orders as soon as possible! You can either get a shirt to support the seniors or a shirt to support the juniors. If you are a junior or senior and would like to play or be a cheerleader, talk to the NHS representative in your grade in charge of sign-ups. The game is on May 21, and you don't want to miss it!

Thats right, the most exciting news to any high school student; finals have been canceled. The days of the week that finals origionally were are now full days to make up the hours we missed from the tornados. Seniors still graduate on May 27th, and that is the last day of school for everyone!

Prom CD's

Junior Retreat

Prom Tickets

Prom tickets are due by NO later than April 1st. The price is now $50 for a single ticket and $100 for a couples ticket. Prom is April 9, 2011 at the VBC from 6-11pm.

National Honor Society Inductions

This past Wednesday the 23 of March, 39 juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society. Also the senior members received their chords for graduation. It was a lovely ceremony filled with many amazing and inspirational speeched. Mr. Rawlings, husband of Religion teacher Mrs. Rawlings delivered a speech about how he has applied the pillars of the society in his military career. The speech was inspirational and really helped he the inductees to understand what the society is all about. Congradulations to all the new members and the senior members as well!

Science Fair 2011

Although this science fair was not like it has been in years past, students managed to prevail and represent the school at the regional competition at UAH. 18 students, 17 projects were chosen to represent us at regionals. Courtney Klosky was one of three students at regionals chosen to go to the International Science Fair in Las Vegas, Nevada. We are very proud of Courtney and wish her luck!

Senior Trip

Today the seniors leave for their annual trip to Washington D.C. They will be spending time touring the monuments and museums in the city. When asked about the senior trip in years past Mrs Smith has one memory that really stands out. When interviewed, she mentioned that one year while on the trip, the seniors went to sing at a nursing home. In the middle of singing "Fly Like an Eagle", a bird in the area where they were singing started chirping. She said this was a truly amazing ecperience where everyone in the room could really see and feel God. We hope the seniors have a great time and wish them a safe trip!

More Wednesday Afternoon Happenings - Art Club

Art was being made and fun was being had:

Club Sponsor, Mrs. Semmes was working on her own "scratch" art project, inspired at least in part by the desire to put to use some materials (a type of carbon paper) already on hand and seemingly going to waste.

Mrs. Semmes shared her vision for turning the empty field (and long-distance future home of more classrooms..?) into an art installation. Her plan includes making use of a role of vinyl that was donated to the school. The idea of taking old, overlooked, or any type of material that is otherwise headed for the landfill and turning it into art really seems to inspire her. Mrs. Semmes has promised to provide Student Council with more information about this project so that we can help recruit anyone who is interested to participate in the experience of making art. I think brooms and lots of splashing paint are going to be involved!

On Wednesday after school, cast members of Broadway Revue were busy rehearsing. Kyrsty was kind enough to perform a bit of her song (from South Pacific) when ambushed by a camera-wielding Student Council sponsor...but here's her picture instead -- you'll have to go to the show to see the awesome real thing!

Broadway Revue veterans, Cat and Lauren making sure rehearsal stays on track -- including making sure that the intrusion of the "media" doesn't become a problem!

This Friday and Saturday, March 4th and 5th, the Drama Department will be putting on one of their most popular annual traditions- the Broadway Revue! Different from the Talent Show and Open Mic Night, the snazzy night of music and comedy will feature the glamorous songs of Broadway. The night will be jam-packed with exciting group numbers featuring the very best of JPII's singers, accompanied by the impeccable JPII Jazz Band. Enjoy a dinner filled with the sights and sounds of elegant solo performances and the soothing serenades of the Jazz Band. Servers will even be present to make your Broadway experience complete. For only $20, you can be a witness to this priceless spectacle, which is understandably the biggest fundraiser for the Drama Department! See you there!

Can-a-thon

On Thursday December 2, Student COuncil went to Redstone Bank to help collect and count cans for the annual can-a-thon. All day long people all over the area donated cans to many different locations around the area to help Christmas Charities. This year our school collected over a thousand cans. Thanks to all who helped this year with our collection. Hungry people all aroung the are will be blessed with food this holliday season because of your contributions!

Thanksgiving!

This week we will have school Monday and Tuesday. Then we will be on Thanksgiving break and come back to school on Monday. Don't forget your cans for can-a-tho are due before Thanksgiving break. It's 12 cans or $10 dollars for the out of uniform pass, but please bring more to help us reach our goal and help you class win!

Can-a-thon

This year for Can-a-thon our goal is four thousand cans. This year we have less time then we have in years past so we really need to work fast to reach our goal. The grade competition and the out of uniform day are great incentives for students to quickly bringing in cans. When some students were interviewed about this years can-a-ton, they think it is very possible to reach our goal. One of the students said that the reason that they remembered to bring in their cans was because of members of the council dressing up as cans and holding signs out in car line in the morning. Another said that with our goal being so high, they thought it would be down to the wire getting all the cans in. Eeither way we want to reach our goal to help the homeless in our community. This is a great way for us to be active in service in the community. Everyone please remember to bring in your 12 cans or $10 to help us reach our goal before we leave for Thanksgiving break!

CAN-A-THON

At this week's meeting -- already the Council's second in it's new home, members were hard at work developing promotional materials for the Can drive, making plans for a presentation at the next assembly on November 19th, bemoaning the unfinished state and awkward layout of the new store while discussing ways to get it open as soon as possible, and of course, Mandatory Fun brought to us this week by Nick.

Back To School Blowout

Come enjoy an evening of fun at this years Back To School Blowout. There will be dancing, food and refreshments, and activities to participate in. This will be the last major dance or event in our current building before we move to the new campus, because of this the theme is a blowout. The date is Friday October 1st from 6:30-10:00pm. Tickets are $5 and you can purchase them during the store beginning tomorrow, September 24th. We are looking forward to a fun night of memories, fun, and of course dancing. Please purchase your tickets soon and we hope to see you there!

New School Store

The countdown is on! It is getting closer and closer to October and that means moving into our new school! This is a very exciting time for us as a school community, our family, and benefactors. Today the officers of your student council went on a hard hat tour of the new building and it is beyond expectations! The classrooms are bigger and the hallways are wider. This new facility is going to give us many new opportunities to learn with new technology and grow together as a school community! I can not even begin to describe all of the amazing new things we saw on the tour today, but in less than two months we will all be sharing this same feeling of pride and hope for a brighter future. After the cookout this Friday, May 21, Student Council will be hosting a carnival out on the front lawn. There will be many events such as:

After school you will be allowed to change out of your uniform for the carnival as long as you follow the guidelines in the student handbook for out of dress code days.

Remembering Christmas 2009
